Top 10 Roblox Brand Games (August '24)

Shrek and the Olympics entered our monthly top Roblox brand games rankings.

 

Every week we publish exclusive research about how brands are activating on the Roblox platform. At the start of each month, we gather data on how many visits branded experiences have accumulated during the previous month to see what's currently popular on the platform.


+12% Monthly Increase Across Top 20 Roblox Games by Brands

When looking at the top 20 Roblox branded games combined, overall visits increased +12% month-over-month. In July, the top 20 games collectively had 126.2 million visits, versus having 112.6 million visits in June.


Shrek Enters Top 10 Roblox Brand Games List

Shrek is the latest entertainment IP brand to find success with a custom built Roblox experience, following in the footsteps of Barbie, Miraculous, Ben 10 and SpongeBob. Made by The Gang, Shrek Swamp Tycoon originally was released in paid beta and then went on to be made available free to play. This was a similar release strategy that Gamefam used to launch its popular games Barbie DreamHouse Tycoon and SpongeBob Simulator.



Although you don't typically see tycoon games among the most popular games currently on Roblox, this genre is well-established on the platform. In tycoons, players collect funds, use those funds to build up areas, and then continue on until they've finished bringing the space to life. The idea in the Shrek experience is to help Shrek built his swamp home. Other brands that have launched tycoon-based experiences include FIFA, NFL, TMNT, Sour Patch Kids, PacSun and Cirque du Soleil.

Paris Olympics Perform Well on Roblox


This summer's Olympics games in Paris captured viewers' attention worldwide with thrilling competitions across sports like basketball, swimming, track and field and gymnastics. And several groups brought their own spin on the Olympics games to Roblox to reach and engage with new audiences.


The most notable brand to come to Roblox this summer for the Olympics was the Olympics itself. Presented by Visa and built by Super League, the Olympic World experience broke into our top 10 list this month with over 5 million visits.



Free UGC was a key marketing tactic used to attract players to the experience.



Some free UGC was related to the experience's sponsor, Visa.

Another official Olympics experience that launched this summer was Team USA Ultimate Obby. This experience however has not been able to attract as many visits. It had 604K visits in the month of July.



Another group who created a special Olympics-inspired event was Roblox itself. Roblox launched a platform event called The Games. Players were invited to join along and participate as a member of one of several influencer-led teams. Roblox influencers are a big part of the Roblox ecosystem, so it was great to see them have a role in this special event.


The hub for The Games has amassed over 68 million visits to date.

Last but not least, there is a new Olympics-inspired user-made experience performing well on Roblox called World Games: Paris. This track and field-themed experience has performed very well. As of this writing in mid-August, this experience is attracting about 600K visits per day.



Unlike the other experiences that used free UGC to lure players, this experience is attracting players with naturally fun gameplay. Organic videos tout the high-quality gameplay itself rather than free UGC.



With entertainment and sports properties like Shrek and the Olympics finding success on Roblox, we're sure to see more brands in these industries coming to the popular platform to connect with new audiences.
